Science & Story was Pop Up’s collaboration with The Francis Crick Institute, and communities in the King’s Cross area, at the time the Institute was being built in 2013. Three illustrators and one writer teamed up with groups of young people to collaboratively tell stories connected to the Institute. Jack Teagle worked with YMCA’s One KX to tell the story of Francis Crick; Tom Clohosy-Cole worked on a story with children and parents at Camden’s Working Men’s College that looked into the future of the institute; Takayo Akiyama worked with Somers Town Community Association to explore the amazing world of biomedical research; and writer Christiane Dorion worked across all three books. You can watch a documentary all about this project – and download all three stories below.
A unique creative collaboration between scientists, illustrators, writers and local communities to create engaging stories inspired by science.
