Our work with schools - Pop Up

Pop Up Festival

This nationwide, annual literature festival has brought high-quality books and diverse authors into mainstream and SEND schools to engage pupils with reading, writing, visual literacy and storytelling.

For over ten years, our team has connected over 150,000 children and young people with exceptional literature through live interactions with a wide variety of authors.

Pop Up Festival

Our festival brought literature to life for hundreds of thousands of school children since 2011.

Through our education activities we created rich learning opportunities for pupils and educators in primary and secondary schools across the UK.

We especially strived to improve the literacy standards of schools in deprived places and challenging circumstances, harnessing the imagination and expertise of the best contemporary children’s authors.

Each project revolved around quality contemporary children’s books and each experience was tailored according to the needs of the class. Our education projects are proven to improve the literary practice of educators and enhance the creative capacity, confidence and imagination of pupils.

Pop Up Festival for SEND

This programme engaged pupils in reading, writing, visual literacy and storytelling in SEND schools.

We collaborated with schools and education providers to develop an enriching programme for all ages (3-18 years) and needs, including sensory and PMLD.

Our work immersed pupils in reading, writing and storytelling to improve literacy, communication and wellbeing, and empowered teachers to use accessible literature in SEND classes in fresh and creative ways.

Pop Up Festival Presents

Our online festival supported primary, secondary and special schools’ creativity and wellbeing during the summer of 2021.

Pop Up Festival Presents was devised in response to the ongoing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. It built on the learning gained in 2020 from switching from in-person to online author visits and classroom workshops.

We programmed 21 live events delivered by 24 children’s authors and streamed into classrooms across the UK and internationally. 46,003 pupils and their teachers from 697 schools attended 1,677 author readings, performances, and workshops.

It was a great event and definitely would want to do it again as a regular annual event.

The author has truly inspired a group of children who can often be overlooked by society. The lifelong impact of their experience should not be underestimated.
