Pop Up Festival for SEND is an exciting, hands-on literature programme available year-round for pupils aged 3-18 years in special schools. Our groundbreaking SEND offer is specifically tailored to engage pupils with a wide range of learning needs, including PMLD, SEMH with LD, PSCN, SLCN and High Functioning ASD.
We create a programme around quality contemporary picture books, novels, poetry and graphic novels. We consult with teachers at every stage to provide a personalised and enriching experience for their pupils. We match each class with a children’s writer or illustrator trained by us to work with pupils with SEND. Using our expert knowledge, we also match each class with a contemporary book suited to their needs, literacy levels and age-relevant interests.
Pupils increase their vocabulary, improve their inferential, analytical and communication skills, and develop more confidence to engage with books and create stories. We also provide CPD sessions, where teachers learn practical, creative techniques directly from published writers and illustrators.
The programme culminates in exciting, tailored workshops with the authors of the selected books. Every workshop is interactive, offering opportunities for pupils to write, draw, explore their senses and create – whatever suits their needs. Classes can choose to meet their authors at local libraries, museums, galleries, heritage and outdoor spaces, connecting books and stories to places and local history.
Our team has extensive experience of working with a diverse range of special schools over a number of years, including schools with SEMH with LD, PSCN, and SLCN/ASD designations.
