Pop Up Festival Presents will be live-streamed on Crowdcast each day between 14 and 18 June 2021.
The summer showcase will feature over 20 authors reading from their best-loved and newly released books, along with original and exclusive content, including interviews, performances, workshop activities and resources for use in classrooms and at home.
Confirmed authors so far include Sophie Anderson, James Mayhew, Emily Gravett, Axel Scheffler and Andy Stanton, with more to be announced soon.
It will connect audiences to a range of high-quality contemporary literature for all ages and abilities, across various forms and genres – from picture books and novels to poetry, spoken word and literature in translation.
Narrowing the attainment gap
According to the recent data from the DfE (January 2021), all year groups have experienced an average learning loss in reading of around two months as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The literacy attainment gap is especially evident in secondary schools and in schools with high levels of free school meals.
Pop Up Festival Presents aims to help schools to narrow the gap in literacy attainment, supporting wellbeing and the recovery curriculum this summer term.
Diverse and inclusive
A third of the programme features authors of colour, and many of the live-streamed and recorded events will include live-signing and subtitles, continuing Pop Up’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and the representation of marginalised voices and experiences in children’s literature
Debut writers and illustrators featuring in Pop Up Festival Presents:
- Emerging writers and illustrators from Pop Up’s 10 Stories to Make a Difference collection of newly published titles
