Developing Your Characters
Module One explores the world of character design and development. Learn how to create appealing, engaging and authentic characters with award-winning illustrators and acclaimed art directors.
In this module, you will explore character case studies, learn how to use shape to inform visual language and how to capture detail from observation and body language, a vital aspect of developing convincing characters and narratives that readers can connect with. You will discover how to ‘play’ with your characters, learning different tools to create simple characters from scratch, and subsequently how to develop them into more complex, dynamic characters.
You will also explore tools and techniques to develop story roughs with confidence, creating pace and drama through picture book spreads, and how to use timing and structure techniques to create visually impactful sequences.
