Illustrated chapter books and novels support young readers’ imaginations, illuminating characters and their personalities as well as creating a sense of place and atmosphere.

Within this course, you will gain a real-world understanding of how fiction illustrators collaborate professionally, including how they work with writers, editors and art directors. There will be a series of practical activities throughout the day, which will help develop your understanding of important relevant topics, including black-and-white illustration, composition, character design, and layout.

You will gain an understanding of the importance of the above topics when producing illustrated fiction work for young readers, and will consider the processes of creating this work and how that may affect your future practice.
