Create a distinctive sense of voice by learning about type, hand lettering and make your own written text. Understanding the role typographers play in transforming your finished pictures into published books.
During the session we will study the role of type and hand lettering on picture books and comics. Understanding type visual impact it has on a picture book, how type needs to be contemplated on the page composition and finally how type can be a good asset to reinforce your visual message.
On the second part of the day we will have a workshop exploring the letter forms through their similarities with drawing. We’ll use materials to produce different mark making and turn it into hand drawn lettering. Aiming to exercise a particular moment of the books that can be shown differently with the help of hand lettering.
