Breaking New Ground: Celebrating British Writers & Illustrators of Colour

We’ve been working with Speaking Volumes (who produce performances, book tours and conferences) and BookTrust (the UK’s biggest children’s reading charity) to celebrate their incredible new project, Breaking New Ground.

This vital new resource – a catalogue profiling 104 British children’s writers, illustrators, poets and storytellers of colour – will help young people, teachers, librarians and literature promoters find out about some of the very best authors working in the UK today.

Breaking New Ground launched at The London Book Fair 2019 in March, followed by a series of national events to raise awareness across the country. Events, each featuring a line-up of some of the very best children’s authors in the UK, take place at:

Seven StoriesThe National Centre for Children’s Books, Newcastle – 23rd May 2019 (4.30pm-6.30pm)

Scottish Storytelling Centre/Creative Scotland, Edinburgh, in partnership with Scottish BookTrust & Literature Alliance Scotland – 18th June (5.30pm-7.30pm)

Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast, part of Belfast Book Festival & in partnership with BookTrust Northern Ireland – 12th June (4pm-6pm)
